FIRST DAY OF FIRST GRADE

Ok so today was an insane kind of day. For real!! Maybe I'll feel like blogging about it in a few days. It involves lost in-laws and the law. It makes me exhausted thinking about it so I'm going to entertain you with more catching up!!
Also, I must tell you I wasted at least 30 minutes of blogging time today trying to find just the right background. I failed dreadfully at that mission. You see, I have NOT forgotten that this weekend starts one of my favorite times of the year. AUBURN FOOTBALL!!!! I know it's not suppose to be a banner year for us but let me inform you if you didn't learn last year that, I DON'T CARE! I love my Tigers no matter what! Therefore I looked for an AUBURN background, or at least a tiger one. Well there aren't any that I can get to work. SO you are left with whats on it now!! So, now on to the real post of the evening.

It has come to my attention that I have not posted about my babies first days of school that happened like 3 weeks ago!! So here you go. My baby, Clara Paige, started the 1st grade at Creekview Elementary this year. No tears for me this time but I did walk her in on her first day. You better believe it!!

Here's my big girl standing in front of the mural as you walk into the school!

And here's my CP walking into the school. She didn't think she needed me to walk her in at first, ("She didn't need me" - doesn't that just hurt to read??) BUT as we swung the corner into the parking lot she had a change of heart and allowed me to escort her to her room. AND I will do so every year until she doesn't let me anymore. It's only a matter of time before she won't let me take these pictures and dote on her like this so I'm treasuring it up as much as I can!!!!

So far she loves her class and is doing great. So we are off to another great school year I hope!!
Next up, My twinkies and their first day of preschool!!!

Surprise!!!!

Ok so the kids are all at school and I guess I'll take the quiet time to play a little bit of catch up for you. A couple of weeks ago we had a little surprise Birthday Party for my mom's birthday. Thanks to her wonderful friends who planned it all out! She caught on a little bit (she says) the day before but she was still surprised! I loved doing this for my mom because I can't think of anyone else who deserved it more. A whole night in her honor!! She's not the kind to take the spot light but she is the kind to give you the shirt off her back so I was thrilled when Ms. Shirley and Ms. Francie & company asked me to help out. God has placed some amazing people in her and our lives over all these years!!
Love you more than I can say Mom/Nana!!!
The Big "SURPRISE!!"

All of mine and Rach's girlies. And they are all looking at the camera AND smiling. What a miracle!!

Good Friends always equals a good time!

Nana with her girls and her Cake!!
Edgar's Bakery Always!!
Yummy every time!

And finally me and my momma!!
I could never write the words to tell you how much I love t his woman!! She gave me life but she gave me SOOO much more than that. She gave me heart, dedication, determination, love, faith and the ability to strive to be a great mom myself.
Hope your birthday was one to remember Momma!!!

ps-See, I didn't put that picture you told me not to!!! I still listen to ya sometimes!

Life Hands you some Lemons.....

Make Some Lemonade Right????
Well, ok it wasn't fresh lemonade. It was Country Time but it was good enough for our yard sale patrons several weekends ago to buy from my angels.
I have several things to catch you up on with the blog but this was too cute to pass up. They were so proud of themselves and were adorable handling the money and the distribution of their product. I was impressed at their determination. They even used their little cash register to keep up with the $$. Well, the big bucks (the dollar bills) were delivered to us but otherwise they kept up with it pretty well.
ps-I'm not sure what's going on with my pictures. They look fine on my computer but when I add them onto my blog they look all blurry and weird. Don't think I haven't noticed. I certainly have and it's driving me nuts. I'll see what I can figure out. Unfortunately it might just be and operator problem.

Quirkiness by Maggie

So you know the twins started pre-K last week. They attend the local Baptist church which has chapel each week for the kidos. SO, I'm thinking my girls are learning some great new songs while at their new school that they LOVE so much. Therefore, this is what I overheard this morning:

Maggie singing to herself "Our Father, Father, Father who are with Heather."
Translation (I think) "Our Father who art in Heaven."

What a hoot she is!!!!! She also made a new friend today but she doesn't know her name. Interesting.........I'll get back to ya on that one, if we ever learn her name.

Pre-School Events

No, not Preschool as in Pre-K but Pre-School as in before school started....
Meme wanted to treat the girls to a mani-pedi before school started. So last Monday Meme came out to our house and we hit up the local nail salon. Each girl got to pick out their own color. I only barred the really fluorescent ones. The 80's went out a long time ago people!!
Here's Miss Gracie getting her nails filed. She bowed out of the pedicure. It wasn't her thing. Wow, she really takes after her momma!!

Miss Maggie getting her nail polish. They were so excited and thought they were "hot stuff" needless to say.

Big sissy in the Pedicure chair. It had a massage option in the chair. She really liked that.

And here's the final product. Maggie got the purple (of coarse-it's her signature color), Gracie got the bubble gum pink and CP got the bright pink. We also took a small shopping spree for school clothes that day. Thanks Meme to a great day!!

VBS 2009 - Riverchase Edition

Ok so our VBS was a month ago, at least I'm finally getting around to it. I just couldn't leave it out because it was that awesome this year (it's always pretty good)!! This year Alex and I were roped into....Oh, I mean we had the pleasure of being VBS "Rangers" to the 6th grade girls and boys. Wow, was that interesting but mostly it was FUN! I haven't been around kids that age in a long time. I honestly think they have more energy than my girls do!! Seriously!! Alex ate it up. He was an excellent "Ranger." He actually was the biggest kid in our group. I love seeing him let loose and have fun like that!! I'm thinking I'll just handle these preschool-grade school years and hand our girls over to him when they hit pre-teen age. He's pretty good with them.

Anyway, our theme centered around The Nature of God. The decorations were incredible if I do say so myself. My girls talked all the way home every night about it all.

Me and my girlies in our VBS shirts!!
Mrs. Womack made this absolutely amazing "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" area and I can't begin to tell you how talented she and so many people in our church are!!
I just have to share with you my Bee Hive. Alex and I helped a very tiny bit one evening with the decorations and this is one of our contributions!! Aren't the little bees cute??

This is our Children's minister, Mr. Tony believe it or not! He was the crazy Doctor that led the kids in science experiments each night and related them to the Bible story for each evening!! He chose to wear the wig but the teeth are all his. Just kidding Tony!!

And finally here are our awesome 5th-6th graders!! They were a hoot. Alex gave all of our kids nicknames. They loved it!! We can't wait to see what they come up with for next year!!

Parkin'

We love to go to parks, especially my girlies! A couple of weeks ago (because yes, that is how far behind I still am) we went to the cute park in Helena. I don't know the name and honestly don't need to. It's the one behind the Municipal buildings. Helena isn't that big so it's easy to find. Anyway, it was one of those awesome days we had back in July so it was the perfect day for a trip to the park. The girls loved it so much this was the only picture I could get them to sit still for!! One of the best things about it was the shade trees. Have you ever noticed that a lot of parks with playgrounds do NOT have shade trees for the poor, lazy parents who just want to sit and enjoy their children while seated?!?! So this one gets and A+ for the seating arrangements and the fun level for my kidos.

It's another busy week at the Hicks household so hopefully I won't be gone too long everyone. We had Preschool orientation tonight for the twins and "Meet the Teacher" for CP in the morning. Then another meeting tomorrow night and so on and so on and (well you get the picture). I'm sure all you guys are the same.
Well, until next time and have a great week!!

Quote of the week...." All that I'm after is a life full of laughter, as long as I'm laughin' with you." - Chris Daughtry.

Trade Days

So a couple of weekends ago we headed up to Tannehill to hang out with Al's parents who were camping there for the weekend. It happened to be Trade Days so we ventured over to check out the wares. Funny enough, Alex was the one who found the most "treasures."
Our beloved neighbors, Nicholas and Zack, went with us to make the day so much more fun. We rode the little train over from the camping area to the Trade Days area.

Here's the group of good lookin' kidos with their purchases from the huge garage sale-like mass of stuff. Notice #1 that Zack was not all together happy about the picture and #2 Miss Maggie's lovely new headband she just HAD to have. Not sure where it is at the moment but that day it was a must have!!

There was a little bubbling creek that Meme wanted the kids to see so they all took of their shoes and enjoyed the cool water on their tootsies.

And to top it all off PawPaw and Meme had watermelon for us all. All my girls like it but my CP LOVES it. Could it possibly be that it was one of the two things I craved daily while I was preggo with her??? Who knows?!
On to more adventures next time!!

Melts me like Butter...

This is what I came home to after a hard day at work and church this evening. It's enough to melt my heart and break it all at the same time. There are no words for this!
I have many things to catch up on with my blog but this just jumped up to #1 when I saw it! Love to all and especially Pappy!!! We still miss you with all our hearts!!

Camera is found. Yippee! I can post pictures again soon.

One quick funny - Last Sunday I heard Maggie say to one of her sisters, "Oh I am just Mortified!" She's 4 people. Where do they get this stuff? TV I'm sure. It was too funny!

Bathing Beauties

Ok so now I can't find my camera! And I can't download all those pictures until I find it. I know, it's terrible but it's here somewhere. The fun will be finding it. SO, until I do recover it, I have posted some pictures not yet published in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for your viewing pleasure.
Several weeks ago the girls had a pool party of sorts in Nana's front yard.
Looks cool and relaxing doesn't it?
Yes, she's "sun-bathing." I know it's taboo and politically incorrect these days but she gets it honest I do have to admit! I'm sure there was sunscreen on her to make the worriers feel better.

Living it up in a plasic pool. Oh those were the days.

Acting silly in a pool.
What more fun can be had as summer vacation draws to an end?
On to fall and school and football and such so very soon!!
I do love all of those things but it's sad to see summer break come to an end each year. Good thing it swings back around every year. I will be glad for cooler weather but that doesn't happen here till like October so sweat on my dear Alabama friends.
More to come soon when I find that sneaky camera!! I bet it got mad at me for neglecting it and ran off to hid and pout! Oh wait that's what my kids do!! Haha. Oh well, Until next time.
